SmoothieHigh-Protein Smoothie
The problem with most protein smoothies is texture — protein powder alone makes a thin, chalky drink you don't want to finish. Frozen banana, Greek yogurt, and a spoonful of peanut butter turn it into something closer to a milkshake, thick enough to eat with a spoon, while still landing around 30 grams of protein. Blending the powder with the liquid first is the trick to zero clumps.
- for the smoothie
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 ripe banana, frozen
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
makes one large filling smoothie — great as a breakfast or a post-workout meal.
- Add the milk and protein powder to the blender first and blend for a few seconds — mixing the powder into liquid before anything else is what stops it from clumping.
- Add the frozen banana, Greek yogurt, and peanut butter, and blend until thick and completely smooth.
- Adjust: more milk to thin it, a few ice cubes or more frozen banana to thicken.
- Pour and drink right away for the creamiest texture.
No protein powder? Double the Greek yogurt and add a tablespoon of hemp seeds — still high-protein, just a touch less.
Peanut allergy? Almond butter, sunflower seed butter, or a spoonful of oats all add body.
Want it lower-sugar? Swap the banana for frozen cauliflower rice — it disappears into the texture with almost no flavor.
Dairy-free? Use a plant milk and a dairy-free yogurt; a frozen banana keeps it creamy without the yogurt.
Best blended fresh — the texture is noticeably thicker and creamier right after blending. If prepping ahead, store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours; it'll separate slightly, so give it a good shake or quick re-blend before drinking.
Chocolate version Swap the vanilla protein powder for chocolate and add a teaspoon of cocoa powder for a milkshake-style flavor.
Berry version Add a half cup of frozen mixed berries along with the banana for a fruitier, slightly tangier smoothie.
Coffee-protein Add a shot of cooled espresso or a teaspoon of instant coffee for a protein mocha version.
Kantan tip — add the protein powder to the liquid first, not last — dumping it on top of frozen fruit is exactly how you get chalky clumps stuck to the blender wall.
